What is a good (side affect minimal) acne treatment out there?

I am almost 26 and have had nagging (fairly minimal though) acne. It feels worse now than when I was in my teens and I am really fed up with it. I asked my doctor for Retin-A Micro but after reading reviews I got terrified. My skin isn%26#039;t so bad that i want to break out for months before I see improvement. I guess I%26#039;m looking for something more gentle. I%26#039;ve used Salicylic Acid and that helped a little, so I%26#039;m looking for nay and all suggestions. Thank you!|||Murad skin care system is really good... I have been using it about 3 weeks after using proactiv for about 2 years and it has made much better improvements.. cheaper too like 30 bucks and makes your skin feel nice and smooth and not tight like the others do...

Check it out - it guarantees clear skin in 30 days

Hope this helps :-)|||even if you read some medical books..the mainstay of treating acne will always be washing your face with a mild soap and water.|||Here is what you need to do, if you haven%26#039;t already.

1. always bathe, everyday

2. Wash your face if it seems dirty/oily

3. Use a good moisturizer after washing your skin, esp face (only the good stuff like Clinique works for some).

4. Always wash your face before bed. If you are female, try not to use makeup or use it minimally. Wash all makeup off your face before bed (regular soap doesn%26#039;t get it all off, so you might have to use a makeup remover).

5. Only wear clean clothes, and sleep on clean bed linens, particularly your pillowcase.

6. If your mattress is dirty, it may need to be replaced, or you can get a plastic zip-up cover to enclose it (walmart has them). This also keeps down mites and dust.

7. Try not to use soaps with scents. Use gentle soaps, such as diluted liquid body wash and a squishy body scrub thingy or wash cloth. Get some clinique facial soap. $$ but worth it.

8. When washing clothes and bed linens, do not use scented detergents. Wash clothes on heavy cycle (esp if you have very oily skin) with a little extra detergent. Add about 2 tablespoons of plain bleach (chlorine bleach, not oxi-clean and all that other stuff) directly to the water before putting your clothes into it. Make sure the bleach goes into the water and gets swished around a bit before putting your clothes into it. Don%26#039;t get bleach on the agitator, or if you do, rinse it off. It can burn your clothes. This step is for killing microbes (bacteria, viruses) on your clothes.

9. Clean the drawers your clothes go in with some diluted bleach (~ 1 tablespoon/gallon water) and maybe a little detergent if they are musty.

10. Basically you can see a pattern, you need to be clean. For example, wash your hands frequently, and try not to touch your face with your hands if they are dirty (this is bad hygiene anyway). Clean your floors if they are dirty (real steam cleaning is esp good). Don%26#039;t put your face on dirty pillows on the sofa. You%26#039;d be surprised how much nasty stuff can live in a pillow/dirty couch, etc.

11. Brush your teeth well with a good toothpaste, at least in the morning and before sleep. Use lysterine or generic equivalent. You may think this sounds crazy, but just on the outside of your mouth is your face, and bad oral hygiene leads to alot of systemic problems, just take my word for it.

12. Eat a healthy diet. This includes both content and volume of food. Take a multivitamin. Take a Calcium/Vit D. pill, a fish oil pill and a vitamin e pill separately. Get some sun on as much of your body as you can periodically (10 minutes or so is good).

13. Get some moderate exercise.

14. Try to get at least 7 hours of solid uninterrupted sleep a night. Earplugs can help you sleep much more soundly if you need them.

15. Try to reduce stress.

16. Although this may seems obvious, I%26#039;ll mention it anyway for the sake of posterity; Don%26#039;t smoke, use illicit drugs, use excess alcohol, abuse your body. All of these break down the body. Try to stay away from 2nd hand smoke as well. Avoid chemical fumes.

If you do all of that and still have acne, I%26#039;d try some medication. Otherwise you are just bandaid-ing.
